Another roundabout planned CJOnline.com

Add S.W. 17th and MacVicar to the list of Topeka intersections likely to get a roundabout to replace traffic signals.

City spokesman David Bevens said a budget is expected to be placed on the Topeka City Council agenda sometime soon to get the project moving. He said city and state officials are concerned about the number of accidents at S.W. 17th and MacVicar, at the northwest corner of the Washburn University campus.

Bevens said the plan had been discussed with Washburn officials, including president Jerry Farley, and with a neighborhood association in the area. They seemed to be receptive to the idea, he said, when it was explained that the roundabout is expected to be safer than the current intersection.

I support roundabouts, and think this is a good location for one. But I believe the city needs to do a better job of working with area residents to make these projects as pain free as possible.
