Evening, Sunday Topeka Transit Service Gets Reprieve - Again

Evening, Sunday Topeka Transit Service Gets Reprieve - Again

The deadline to end evening and Sunday bus service in Topeka is once again extended.

The Topeka Transit Authority board voted Monday night to continue the service until July 5th. It originally was slated to end April 1, then was extended to Memorial Day.

Funding is the issue. The Topeka City Council voted last week to raise Transit's mil levy cap from three mils to five, but only for a year. Even with that vote, the Transit board says, until the budget is approved in August, even that money isn't guaranteed.

Just a reminder that is isn't too late to stop this tax increase. There will soon be a petition to reverse the council decision. And you can continue to pressure your council member to not approve the actual increase.
