The ice under the skates of the Topeka RoadRunners solidified on Wednesday.
The North American Hockey League team has new owners who are keeping the franchise in Topeka.
Don Stone, an Atlanta businessman, will be the majority owner of the team. The acquisition from previous owner Mary Magdalene Lorang was finalized Wednesday when a three-year lease agreement was signed with the Kansas Expocentre.
Brian Bell, a minority owner, was named team president and will be responsible for running the team’s day-to-day operations.
A press conference to introduce Stone and Bell is scheduled at noon Friday in the Expocentre’s box office atrium. The team, which plays in Landon Arena, will continue to be called the RoadRunners.
I am thrilled that the RoadRunners are staying in Topeka. This is good news for our community.
