Mall, Segway user strike deal | CJOnline.com

Mall, Segway user strike deal CJOnline.com

It is described as a personal transporter, a device its manufacturer says enables a person to do more with less.

Look for one soon at West Ridge Mall.

But you won’t find a Segway for sale at the mall. Instead, it will be used by a disabled Topeka man to get around and shop.

A federal court settlement that allows John McElroy to freely ride his Segway into West Ridge Mall “is the law in Kansas,” his attorney said Wednesday.

On May 8, a mediation hearing between McElroy and the mall, which was the defendant, with U.S. Magistrate Judge Gary Sebelius culminated in a settlement.

I am glad this controversy is about over. The mall got a lot of bad publicity from this story, something they don't need in this economy. They should be encouraging people to use the mall by whatever means they need to, not pushing customers away.
