Council to vote on TMTA proposal | CJOnline.com

Council to vote on TMTA proposal CJOnline.com

The Topeka City Council won’t receive any input from Topeka-based Anderson Montgomery, LLC, this week as it considers a proposed charter ordinance that would raise the cap on the property tax mill levy assessed by the Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Larry Montgomery said Saturday that he and Vann Anderson, his partner in the strategic planning and implementation firm, had planned to begin an analysis of the TMTA today and make a report to the council next week before they learned Friday that the council must act on the proposal this Tuesday.

“That’s just not sufficient time for us to do a credible assessment, and so we’re not going to be able to do it,” Montgomery said. “We told the TMTA that after the vote on Tuesday, if there was something we could do at that point, we would be delighted.”

These decisions are never easy, but without the analysis, I am a no vote on raising taxes for TMTA. The people who use the service have to pay a bigger percentage of the price tag than they do now.
