Energy pact sent to House | CJOnline.com

Energy pact sent to House CJOnline.com

The Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill Thursday night necessary to consummate the coal-plant development agreement negotiated by Gov. Mark Parkinson with a Kansas utility cooperative.

The measure approved 37-2 would trade a permit for construction in Holcomb of an 895-megawatt plant by Sunflower Electric Power Corp. for a bundle of renewable energy provisions that had been stalled in the legislative process.

The bill also is expected to win passage in the House — a vote likely to occur today — before moving to the governor’s desk.

Nice to see this agreement moving forward. Building the coal plant is in the best interest of Southwest Kansas, and of the whole state in general.
