Transit Authority Gets Mill Cap Increase for 2010

Transit Authority Gets Mill Cap Increase for 2010

The battle to keep the busses running is not over, but the Topeka Transit Authority got the answer it was looking for Tuesday night. The Topeka City Council voted to increase the mill cap for Topeka Transit for 2010.

The mill cap increases to 5 mills next year, then reverts back to 3 mills after that.

As it currently stands, weekend and Sunday riders still may be without the service for a while after Memorial Day, but that has yet to be determined.

The cap increase only raises the ceiling of how much the Transit Authority can ask for. They won't receive anymore money until the budget process begins later this summer.

This is a bad deal for Topeka residents. And don't believe the one year garbage. You know that once a tax increase is implemented, it is rarely reversed. The only hope in this situation is that there is still time for you to flood your councilman with complaints. Maybe they won't actually give TMTA the money. But I doubt it. It looks like they have made up their mind.
